How challenge learning at Hult helped me launch my dream startup
People desire a meaningful and healthy life. But many working professionals are pushing themselves to the limit to become successfulââ¬âoften at the expense of their mental and physical health. When the chance to take a holiday comes, most people withdraw from their frenetic lifestyles for a week or two in an attempt to recuperate, rejuvenate, and rest. However, people often return home feeling just as stressed as before. To find a solution to this problem, my team and I took the entrepreneurial track of the 2017 Hult Business Challenge as an opportunity to develop a coaching concept called AQAI. Set in exotic destinations around the world, AQAI provides a unique combination of coaching in the areas of fitness,à nutrition, yoga, meditation, and mindset. After graduating, I decided to put our ideas into action and turned the AQAI concept into a real business. Finding my own balance: where the idea began Six months prior to Hult, I went on a family vacation to Sri Lanka to work on my undergraduate thesis about culture and communication. The pressure of finishing my thesis made it a very stressful time. To combat this feeling, I practiced yoga, recorded a dance video, explored Sri Lanka, and focused on my fitness as well as spending a few hours each day writing my thesis. This proved the right formula for me, balancing productivity with my overall wellbeing. Juggling multiple demands on my time wasnt an unfamiliar feeling. Back home in Norway, along with my full-time studies, I worked as a professional hip-hop dancer, a yoga teacher, and a personal trainer. I even recorded 40 episodes of a TV program calledà Lip Sync Battleà in the final months leading up to my thesis deadline. Only 10% of 2016 graduates on my undergraduate course were awarded an A on their thesis. Im proud to say I was one of them. This didntà necessarily prove I was smarter than the other 90%, but it made it clear to me that if you take care of yourself, do the things you love, and surround yourself with good people, you can reach your goals while still feeling balanced. I transformed my experience and ideas into the concept that would become AQAI. If you take care of yourself, do the things you love, and surround yourself with good people, you can reach your goals while still feeling balanced. Realizing the dream: collaborating with Hult classmates Six months after my trip to Sri Lanka, I was enrolled in the Masters in International Business program at Hult in London. It was when I met six very smart and talented girls from Dubai, Germany, India, and Norway on my course, that I was able to really put the wheels in motion for AQAI. We collaborated during an on-campus business challenge to refine and test the concept of a coaching retreat. Together, by sharing different perspectives, pushing our limits, and constantly meetings deadlines, we arrived at a sound business model. Our first pilot program was held in Portugal during the spring of our masters program. It proved to be a success, and although my team and I have gone on to pursue different paths since Hult, the experience of challenge-based learning gave me the confidence to truly to chase my dream. And now, just over a year on from graduating, AQAI has transformed from a concept in the classroom into a lifestyle company offering coaching retreats at destinations all over the world. Im so grateful to say that my girls from Hult are still my number one supportersââ¬âI couldnt imagine being here without my Hult network. The long-term benefits of a coaching retreat Now that you know about how AQAI found its start at Hult, I want to share with you why coaching retreats are so special. In addition to offering an exotic getaway in an inspirational environment, our retreats set themselves apart from typical vacations thanks to the specific purpose behind them. Meditation and yoga, when practiced together, strengthen your mind-and-body connection and improve your overall wellbeing. Physical activity combined with good nutrition can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight, reduce the risks of chronic disease, and promote overall health.à Mindset coaching addresses every aspect of life, which can help you to reach your full potential. The art of understanding how personal skills and mindset impact your everyday performance is key to meaningful personal growth. Other benefits of a coaching retreat include: Experiencing and learning new things By being put into an unfamiliar environment, you can often see things in a new perspective, find out what really drives you, and be inspired to do more of the things you love. Taking a break from the daily grind Our coaching retreats aim to cater for all your needs, helping you to ditch the smartphone, forget the pressures of work, and truly relax as you discover new cultures. Spending time in nature Nature is food for the soul. Clean air and calm surroundings can offer the healing touch needed to reduce stress. No worries about planning and schedules Part of our day-to-day stress can come from things like waiting in line, commuting, organizing schedules, planning meals, and making reservations. Eliminating these factors during your retreat means you can totally focus on the experience and your wellbeing. A new network of friends Its easy to surround yourself with an echo chamber of people who are similar to youââ¬âsharing your own thoughts, beliefs, and worldview. While retreats tend to attract individuals with similar concerns or interests, theyre likely to come from different backgrounds and have different experiences. Opening up to a new support system can help you to positively challenge your assumptions, grow in knowledge, and share your own ideas. And, most importantly, you can create valuable connections and friends for life. Enjoying real me time and investing in yourself This is the most important factor of the retreat experience. Each day of the retreat is designed to allow you to focus on yourself, prioritizing your physical and mental wellbeing and teaching you how to build the habits needed to reach your full potential. A coaching retreat not only helps individuals while attending the retreat, it teaches them how to continue healthy habits at home. For support, AQAI participants can join the online community and attend online coaching sessions. The Effects of Divorce on Young Children Essay - 1696 Words
The statistics for divorce in the 1990s suggest that nearly sixty percent of marriages end in divorce. Given this startling figure, the assumption can be made that many children will experience some effects caused by the life-changing event called divorce. What is it exactly about divorce that causes negative consequences for these children? In what ways will these children be effected? Will these effects show outwardly? I will attempt to uncover some of the complexities surrounding these psychological questions in the following text. The unsettling fact is: young children of divorced parents face great psychological challenges due to the environmental conditions and changes associated with divorce (Wolchik and Karoly 45).â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦If divorce is so painful, why do some children flourish academically? Why do others sound mature and logical when explaining their family situation? Why do others carry on as if nothing has happened? The reactions a child exhi bits will depend on the nature of the child (ego strength and capacity to mobilize resources), as well as his or her age and the relationship of the parents and child before, during, and after the divorce. Some of the initial reactions to divorce are similar to the reactions to the death of a loved one. It can be expected that a child going through such a traumatic event as divorce will experience a wide spectrum of emotions: sadness or depression, denial, embarrassment, anger, guilt, concern about being cared for, regression, maturity, and physical symptoms (Diamond 22-28). Listed by age group are some of the more common post-divorce symptoms experienced by children. Preschool children are more likely to blame themselves and to experience nightmares, enuresis, and eating disturbances. Early-school age children have academic problems, withdrawal and depression. Older school age children are more likely to blame one parent for the divorce and feel intense anger at one or both parents. Adolescents experience the most intense anger and also exhibit problems with developmental issues of independence and interpersonal relationships (Wolchik and Karoly 235-236). The adjustment period for children experiencing divorce isShow MoreRelatedCognitive Effects Of Parental Divorce On Children And Young Adults1722 Words à |à 7 Pages Cognitive Effects of Parental Divorce on Children and Young Adults Catherine B Ricketts Southern Union State Community College ââ¬Æ' Abstract Many countries have conducted research studies concerning how separation and divorce affects children and young adults in cognitive development. Analysis of music in the film Grease Essay Example For Students
Analysis of music in the film Grease Essay Musicals are able to break down language barriers, telling the plot of he film through song which evokes plenty of emotion that is universally understood. West Side Story is a perfect example of a musical where choreography and music helps the audience to understand the story even though they might not understand every word of the lyrics. Musicals are able to effectively tell a story if the plot is more simplistic. Contrary to comedies and dramas, turning an action or science fiction film into a musical would be simply ridiculous. If we were to imagine an action film like The Dark Knight or Star Wars as a musical, I dont think these films would eave been nearly as successful as they have been today. One reason for this is the target audience for films like Star Wars and The Dark Knight have the potential to be vastly different from the type of people who enjoy watching musicals like Dream Girls and Rent. The plot for The Dark Knight and Star Wars largely benefit from the music being comprised of a film score that is not classified as a musical. It would also be difficult to convert these genres into a musical because the plots are often too complex to understand if everything is sung. The scores in non-musicals serves to implement the plot, not to tell the plot which can often be taken more seriously by the viewers. Summer Nights (0:14:04) is the first song in the film, Grease, that gives us an introductory look into what the characters are going to be like. Sandy is seen as very innocent and sweet from the way she recounts her and Dandys summer romance from an emotional perspective- he got friendly holding my hand. Dandys telling of his summer romance is a little more crude and revealing about the physical aspects of the romance -she got friendly down in the sand. The song establishes Danny as he cool leader of the greaser clan known as the T-birds and Sandy as the new girl who the schoolgirl clique, The Pink Ladies, have their eye on to recruit. This song also introduces the other eight main characters (the rest of the T-birds and The Pink Ladies), allowing each of them to ask questions that reveal their characters. The next song that helped to further develop some of the characters is Look at Me, Im Sandra Dee (0:27:30) which is a comedic song performed by Orzo and The Pink Ladies. A taunting, underlying tone in the music is heard right away. Razzs tough and racist tone is established through her lyrics in this song as she is mocking the innocence of Sandy. When the characters are mocking Sandy inability to inhale properly while smoking, we hear a clapper instrument to compliment them coughing. The rest of The Pink Ladies: French, Marty, and Jan, seem to follow their leader, Analysis of music in the film Grease By skimps immature and highly compliant to what Orzo wants them to do or think. Hopelessly Devoted To You (0:32:00) is a ballad performed by Sandy which has a slower tempo than the other songs we have previously heard in the film. The song starts off by using heavy strings to create an emotional feel then later we hear the piano. This is a character song which enables Sandy to express her romantic feelings for Danny, and reflect on their relationship. The chorus, hopelessly devoted to you is how Sandy feels towards Danny and these feelings are emphasized by the repetition through the song. Greased Lightning (0:37:20) is performed by Danny and the T-birds and serves to establish the major cultural influences of the sasss: cars and rock and roll. We hear 3 stingers using ascending notes played on brass at the beginning of the Eng to compliment Dandys ideas of what the car could be (automatic, systematic, hydromantic). .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .postImageUrl , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:hover , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:visited , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:active { border:0!important; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:active , .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11 .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u3bb5b5a84b36c9ba9131182887657b11:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The Analysis of One Flew over the Cuckoo EssayThere is also a lot of call and response between the protagonist, Danny, singing the main course and the T-birds backing him up by providing musical responses to his lines. This song uses heavy percussion, piano, bass, and brass instruments to create a genuine rock and roll feel. The tempo stays consistent throughout the song except when it slows down at the ending chorus. The ending chorus is also where we hear drums and vocals being harmonize. Sandy (01:19:10) reformed by Danny is Dandys counter song to Sandys Hopelessly Devoted To You. This is also a ballad as it expresses the deep emotions Danny has for Sandy and shows how vulnerable he is without her. We see a different side of Danny here because he is not acting tough or cool; he is being raw and real. This song uses empathetic sound as we can hear Danny on the verge of crying at some points in the song which causes the viewer to empathetic with the sadness he feels. Look at Me, Im Sandra Dee (Reprise) (01 :31 :38) is a turning point for Sandys character. The song tarts out as wholesome and pure, like she is, accompanied by the piano in a high key with a light tone (we hear consonance). Then the lyrics get more powerful along with the intensity of the music (crescendo and lower key on the piano) as she decides to say goodbye to her innocence. Youre the One That I Want (01:36:47) performed by Danny, Sandy, Pink Ladies, and T-Birds shows how the characters have succumbed to their feelings. Danny has become the man that Sandy wanted him to be all along and vice versa. We hear a riff on the piano to introduce the new, sophisticated Sandy. The classical harmony between Danny and Sandy is symbolic of the new found harmony in their relationship and the all black costumes they are wearing is symbolic of both their maturity. This is an example of a rhythm song because it is driven by energetic rhythm patterns. Personally, this is my favorite song of the film because I feel it has the catchiest underlying beat and I felt that the choreography and props were used really effectively to capture the viewers attention. We Go Together is a production number which involves the full cast and expresses the major changes in the plot room the opening to closing act. This cheerful tune is expressive of the happiness found by the entire cast and all the main characters are happily coupled off. Grease does include a lot of dancing which I found to be quite effective. It is more visually appealing and helps with the flow of telling the story through song. If at some po ints in the film the characters were Just standing there rather than moving around and dancing, the audience is more likely to be disengaged. Dancing also provides the catchier. Dance is also an important part of detecting a characters emotion through odd language; in the song muff Are The One That I Want, Sandy is seen to have a new gained confidence and attitude which reflective not only in her lyrics, but in her dancing as well. I find it effective that performers in musical films treat their song and dance numbers as if there is a live audience watching. It helps to engage the audience more because they feel as though they are more closely connected to the performers. It also helps the performers find the emotional energy to perform different songs and dance if they have an audiences energy to thrive off of.

My heart raced, bounding so hard it felt as if it was going to explode! My stomach was tied in a knot Everything I wasnt being magnified and pushed out, it was as if that wasnt who I was. I had no one I, might have well be gone even though it was as if I wasnt sadly I was. All my family would say was ââ¬Å"Youre strong, you can get through thisâ⬠Constantly I heard ââ¬Å"Youre strong, in here for you if you need meâ⬠, but they werent ever there? They were never there! I remember sitting there in my room drowning in my own tears thinking why me? Out of all people why me? What did I do to deserve this? Through this dark time I remember looking outside. I soon realized a little leaf on the bush outside my window as it was rotting away, it seemed to just be holding on its base by a thread. It seemed to never end. All I wanted to do was be gone, I didnt want to be here anymore. Laying there I started to think straight. I started to think ââ¬Å"No one should have to go through this, no one should have to feel all this pain, the feeling of being so worthless and damaged. In an instant I was up on my feeling and puncturing my hand into the wall at that second I felt my hand go numb. I flushed with anger and hate, I wanted to destroy everything in my way, I started to push everything down making them shatter into smithereens, and I couldnââ¬â¢t stop myself. My mother rushed in the room trying to hold me down. She held me tight and said ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t let this ruin you, I love you mijaâ⬠but what she didnââ¬â¢t already know was that it already had, I was barley holding on, I couldnââ¬â¢t go on anymore.Mom broke into tears I could feel them making my hair wet as she help me so tight. I for once in a long time felt safe the warmed of her body filled me with a feeling that I have never felt before. We sat on the floor, what seem to feel like hours, trying to calm down. As she looked at me with a lifeless look on her face her than said ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not just going to let this go this time, we need to stop this chainâ⬠I felt so faint and lightly, like if it had all been a dream. But what I wish was a dream was when I went to the childrens advocacy center, and as I walked through the halls, I saw lots of painted hands against the wall, sizes from a 3 year old to someone who was at least 20, the hands seemed to never end I soon felt over whelmed, my heart literally sunk in .I atomically knew what that knew what the hands stood for. They stood for all the children and adults that had gone through what I had. I felt sick to my stomach with a splash of anger as I thought about all the innocent children who had been abused. Coming to my sense I starting thinking to myself. My experience has lead me to want to help others, and with that said, I want to be a Childrenââ¬â¢s psychologist because I want to help those who had been hurt like I have, because I will be able make a connect, and would know how they feel because I have experience the same, most will feel as if it was all their fault but it wasnt and I would be able to help them push through. No one should have to go through those horrific actions and even though it will happen somewhere in the bones of this dying world I will be there for those who need help.

Free Essays on The Sovereignty And Goodness Of God
Throughout Mary Rowlandsonââ¬â¢s narrative, The Sovereignty and Goodness of God, we receive a glimpse of what captivity among the Indians is like. Rowlandsonââ¬â¢s personal account is from a Puritanââ¬â¢s point of view about Native Americans beginning in February of 1675. While reading this narrative, one must understand that the Native Americans were treated as bad if not worse than Mary Rowlandson herself. To get a true understanding, one must be aware of both sides of the story. Rowlandsonââ¬â¢s faith remained the primary basis of how she dealt with most problems and her attitude towards the Indians. Even before her capture, Rowlandson saw ââ¬Å"the causeless enmity of these Barbarians, against the English, and the malicious and revengefull spirit of these Heathenâ⬠(64). She perceived the Indians as ââ¬Å"murtherous wretchesâ⬠, ââ¬Å"merciless Heathenâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"Infidelsâ⬠(68-69). As a woman of the Lord, she did not like all the battling, and the sight of murder was frightening. She dreaded the day they would invade her community. They came that ââ¬Å"dreadfull hour,â⬠and all the stories she had heard from others about invasion became a reality (69). Before she was actually captured, she always said she would ââ¬Å"rather be killed by them than be taken alive,â⬠but once she was captured she ââ¬Å"chose rather to go along with those ravenous Beastsâ⬠(70). To go through such a trial as captivity would be such a witness to her Christian faith. Rowlandson did not think very highly of the Indians when they captured her, and to h er when they were all gathered in one place, it portrayed ââ¬Å"a lively resemblance of hellâ⬠(71). Before Rowlandsonââ¬â¢s captivity and throughout her first remove, the Indians are given the image as being animals. Even through these trying times, Rowlandsonââ¬â¢s faith remained strong, and she never lost hope. When she felt like she might not make it, ââ¬Å"the Lord renewed my strength still, and carried me alongâ⬠(... Seahorse Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Seahorse - Essay Example Nowadays Hippocampus counts almost 20 species, including Hippocampus ingens (dwelling in Pacific ocean), Hippocampus reidi (longsnout seahorse), Hippcampus erectus (Northern seahorse), Hippocampus kuda (the yeallow seahorse) and many others. "Despite previous taxonomic classifications as insects and amphibians, they are fish, cousins to pipefish and sea dragons, from the family Syngnathidae, Greek for "fused jaws." Like most fish they have gills for breathing, a swimbladder for buoyancy, two pectoral fins for balance, and dorsal fins that flutter as much as 35 times per second" (Arrigoni, 1989, p.358). As one can see at the picture below, seahorses have no teeth, caudal fin for speed and stomach, as the last part is replaced in seahorse morphology by enormous tail, used for great speed development. In spite of their beauty and grace, seahorses serve as the Frankensteins of underwater 'society', as they are apparently made of various animals' body parts. As their name shows, seahorses have vertical body and horse's head, situated perpendicularly to the body. Furthermore, seahorse has a kind of crown on its head, and what is most amazing about this body part is the fact that this coronet is as unique as human DNA (Lourie et al, 1999). In addition, their body armor is quite... Their snout and body armor resemble an aardvark's.In terms of their ability to change coloration, seahorses resemble chameleons, as they also mimicre in accordance with the environment colors. "Also with lizards, they share independently moving eyes, assisting both survival and predation tactics. They've borrowed prehensile tails from monkeys, and made a major alteration to the brood pouch of marsupials, with male seahorses nurturing their young" (Lourie et al, 1999, p.231). (from Long, 1995, p.192) As for the reproduction and prenatal behavior, seahorses are distinguished due to the unusual behavior of male individuals, or so-called mating rituals, which are typically attributed to the animal classes as well as to some fish species. Moreover, male individuals usually carry and accept fertilized eggs to order to extort brood in future, as both females and females have prolactin, the hormone that allows this form of hermaphroditic reproduction (Arrigoni, 1989). "Individuals reach sexual maturity by the next breeding season following birth, at the ripe age of three months to a year, depending on size of the species. Breeding seasons vary by species and may be restricted by cooler weather or monsoons, though some go year-round" (ibid, p.188). In particular, H. ingens is able to breed at 12 months, and it is important to note that couples are monogamous as a rule. During the breeding season, pair bonds are encouraged by daily greetings, when individuals prepare an entire performance for each other: change colors, dance and then promenade together by entwining their tails. Furthermore, the female individual puts its oviopositor into the male's brood pouch in order to transmit

THE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS OF ECONOMIC Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
THE IMPORTANT CONTRIBUTIONS OF ECONOMIC - Essay Example It emphasized that foreign goods should only be imported if there is an indispensable need and that too for exchange of domestic products instead of gold and silver. The mercantilist thought opposed free trade with other countries and empires believing that it was fruitless and beneficial to one side only. This paper aims to investigate the important contributions made by the critics of mercantilism which led to the development of classical economic thought (The economist, ). The mercantilist policies, where successful, produced an oversupply of wealth eventually leading to severe inflation. Sooner, protests against government regulations were voiced due to fiscal difficulties. In the late 17th and 18th centuries in France, economists developed physiocracy (government of nature) which advocated agricultural practices, land development and stressed on higher pricing of agricultural commodities. Pierre le Pesant de Boisguilbert opposed the prohibition of export of grain which was ruining the neglected agriculture sector. Fracois Quesnay in his work ââ¬ËTableau Economiqueââ¬â¢ also opposed trade and industry as sources of wealth arguing that real economy mover was productivity in agricultural and diffusion of its surpluses in the system. Marshal Vauban asserted that working class were the main pillars of social welfare and should be protected. Among other notable contributors were Richard Cantillon, Marquis dââ¬â¢Argenson and Vincent de Gournay who advocated free trade and is believed to have originated the physiocratic slogan ââ¬Ëlaissez faire, laissez passerââ¬â¢ meaning ââ¬Ëlet it be, let it passââ¬â¢. John Law in his ââ¬Ëcredit theory of moneyââ¬â¢ proposed that since silver and gold fluctuate, land would be the most stable measure of value. He proposed the use of mortgage-notes for mobilization and paper money for domestic circulation upon security of land. Similarly in Britain, William Petty, John Locke, Dudely North, David Hume and others strongly criticized
